I like the facial expression here. It connotes that there's some rather deep-seated misery involved in offering up Mister Whiskers to the camera. There's definitely a mystery behind this Bad Pet Picture.
Alice, the human subject was afflicted by deep-seated anomic melancholy during this period in his life, as is clearly shown in his tragic visage. Didn't really improve later. The cat was pretty much just stretching and enjoying itself.
